Acer issues patch for ActiveX vulnerability

Acer has released a patch for an ActiveX control called LunchApp.ocx. Acer’s official intention was to allow for easy downloading of updates and patches, but it has been found that bad guys can exploit it.

The patch is available from the Acer web site (Acer Preload Security Patch for Windows XP).

If your computer is from Acer, you should download this patch immediately.

New Look, New Content, and New Features

We at PC Self Help have been hard at work creating the next version of this web site. New content is be written for Windows Vista users and updates are being made to how the site works. I expect to have new features and content online by the 18th of January.

New and expanded sections on the site include:

Downloads - Find and download safe freeware, demos, and shareware.
Drivers - Easily find the drivers for all of your devices.
Windows Tips - This section is going to be greatly expanded with windows tips for Vista.
Tutorials - This section is going to have several new tutorials.

Other sections will be added to and fixes to known problems will be made.

I hope to update this blog on a more regular basis as well. 2006 was great and 2007 looks like it will be even better.
