Rebuild XP

It has happened to me before and if you have used Windows for a while it has likely happened to you - Windows loses a critical file or two and you have no where to turn but to reinstalling the OS. Well, there has always been a way to rebuild Windows XP without losing all your data, but it is not well known until today, I certainly had never heard of it.

InformationWeek.com has published an article on how to rebuild your Windows XP installation.

Here is the process to rebuild your Windows XP in a brief outline (as written by InformationWeek).

  • Boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console
  • Run “Attrib -H -R -S” on the C:\Boot.ini file
  • Delete the C:\Boot.ini file
  • Run “Bootcfg /Rebuild”
  • Run Fixboot
