Rebuild XP
It has happened to me before and if you have used Windows for a while it has likely happened to you - Windows loses a critical file or two and you have no where to turn but to reinstalling the OS. Well, there has always been a way to rebuild Windows XP without losing all your data, but it is not well known until today, I certainly had never heard of it.
InformationWeek.com has published an article on how to rebuild your Windows XP installation.
Here is the process to rebuild your Windows XP in a brief outline (as written by InformationWeek).
- Boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console
- Run “Attrib -H -R -S” on the C:\Boot.ini file
- Delete the C:\Boot.ini file
- Run “Bootcfg /Rebuild”
- Run Fixboot
