ActiveX is a Microsoft technology that can be run only in the Internet Explorer browser. ActiveX is used to make the Internet more interactive and is used for Windows Update.
If you see a popup asking for permission for ActiveX to be run on a site that you don't trust, say no. There are many viruses and browser exploits that involve ActiveX so you will want to make sure that the ActiveX applets you do run are from trusted sources.
ActiveX is seldom used anymore, so you probably will not come across it very often.
