Today it seems everyone is blogging. From celebrities to everyday kids, everyone can get their opinion heard with greater ease than ever.
A blog is a regularly updated webpage or website that can be on any topic. The key to a blog is regular updates. Syndication by RSS feeds is another important component of blogging, it allows readers to keep up-to-date with multiple blogs.
There are many reasons for blogging, some use it as a form of therapy, writing their thoughts out anonymously for anyone who wishes to, to see, and many use blogs for business purposes, to keep clients up-to-date with new ideas and new information. Still others write blogs for personal enjoyment and to help others like I do with my Computer Help blog on this site.
First you need to choose a topic to write about. Keep the topic broad enough so you can find topics to talk about regularly, but keep it narrow enough to attract some readers, that is if you are interested in gaining readership.
Now that you have chosen your topic, you should choose software to blog with. Blogging software allows you to publish new posts and accept comments and syndicate your posts. Blogger.com is probably the easiest to use but there are many others.
Posting great content is the best way to this. The great thing about blogging is that it is pretty easy to get lots of readers. Read other blogs and post great comments with a link to your blog, people will click through to see what you have to say and if they like it, you will gain readership and a following quickly.
If you find blogs that offer similar content to yours, you can ask the owner of that blog to engage in a link exchange with your blog. Many people will visit the other blogs in your blogroll and readers of the site you link with will visit your blog to see what's up.
You should also submit your blog to blog search engine like Technorati. With services like Tecnorati, you can keep track of stats of like who is linking to you, and gain readership by people searching for keywords that your posts have contained within.
Get out there and start blogging, keep updating your site and your readership is sure to grow.
