With every release Acrobat Reader becomes more bloated, and the time it takes to startup takes longer. Luckily you can cut through the bloat and setup Acrobat Reader to load in a quarter of the time or less. All you need is a nifty little program called Adobe Reader SpeedUp from a programmer named Joe Cox.

Visit his web site to download Adobe Reader SpeedUp, it will be .zip file of about 213 KB. Unzip the file to your computer and then go to where you unziped it and click Reader Setup.exe. Once you click the program you will be given two options, to SpeedUp and Restore Original Configuration or to SpeedUp to install. The first choice allows you to undo the changes this program does, and the second is what you want to do. Click SpeedUp to install.

You will now see a screen letting you select which plugins you want to use, I recommend that you just select the Speedup - Fast mode available in the in the Select Speed-Up Mode drop down box.

Now try to load Adobe Acrobat Reader and you should notice a great difference, it shaves nearly fifteen seconds off my time. If in the future you have any problems loading certain documents, you can always restore your previous settings with the tool.
