Disable Windows Splash Screen

Current Location: PC Self Help / Windows Tips / Registry Hacks / Disable Windows Splash Screen

If for some reason you would like to disable the Windows splash screen, you can do so easily. Go to the Control Panel, System, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, Edit. A Notepad window will popup letting you edit the boot.ini file.

To remove the Windows splash screen, simply add /SOS immediately after /fastdetect, leaving a space between the two. You should have something like the following:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /SOS /fastdetect

You will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

If you want to have the splash screen again, just remove the /SOS.
