Identify Faulty Drivers

Current Location: PC Self Help / Windows Tips / Troubleshooting / Identify Faulty Drivers

A faulty device driver is often the culprit behind lockups, blue screens, and other annoyances. You can find which drivers are causing you problems with the Verifier program included with Windows.

To run Verifier, go to the Start Menu, Run, and type in 'Verifier'.

Once the screen labeled 'Driver Verifier Manager' pops up, press Next. Now select the types of drivers you want to confirm. If any drivers are unsigned, a list of drivers to be verified on the next boot will be shown. Reboot your PC, if your PC stops with a blue screen you should receive an error message telling you which driver is the culprit.

To turn off the Verifier, run 'verifier / reset'.

If it tells you there are no problems, the issue may lay somewhere else.
